Our Philosophy: Less Is More

At Making Tracks, we believe deeply in the less is more principle. Our goal is to create a space where genuine human connection comes naturally. By removing distractions and unnecessary clutter, we give you room to slow down, laugh, share stories, and make meaningful memories.

We keep things intentionally simple:

  • No TVs in cabins or bedrooms
  • No Wi-Fi
  • Shared communal spaces
  • A site designed to bring people together

We reuse and repurpose materials wherever possible and stay grounded in simplicity. Our aim is to create a regenerative environment—one where social, economic, and natural systems can be circular, sustainable, and beautifully uncomplicated.

Our Eco Policy

Energy Efficiency

We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint through smart energy use:

  • The house, cabins and barn are supported by 24 solar panels
  • Cabins feature smart electric heaters that minimise energy waste
  • Lighting across the site uses solar sensors and timers
  • Energy-efficient equipment and LEDs are used throughout
  • Electrical equipment kept to a minimum

By using energy wisely, we contribute to a cleaner, greener future.

Waste Management

Responsible waste handling is central to our sustainability approach:

  • Clearly labelled recycling bins for guests
  • A minimal single-use plastics.
  • Locally and ethically sourced products wherever possible
  • Natural cleaning products only—no bleach or toxic chemicals
  • Domestic wastewater is filtered through our onsite treatment system.

We focus on reducing waste at the source and encouraging thoughtful choices.

Water Conservation

Water is precious, and we manage it with care:

  • Guests are encouraged to use water responsibly
  • Using Eco cycles on washing machines.
  • All water is filtered through our onsite percolation system.

Small daily actions help protect this vital resource.

Supporting Biodiversity

Nature inspires everything we do. We’re dedicated to protecting and enhancing the landscape around us:

  • Over 30 native trees planted
  • New shrubs and habitat corridors added
  • Rewilded areas near hedgerows
  • Plans to introduce wildflowers beneath our tree canopy
  • Natural pockets of greenery left untouched to allow wildlife to thrive

We embrace the imperfect, value biodiversity, and welcome the wild as it grows.

How Guests Can Help

We invite all guests to join our sustainability efforts:

  • Recycle using the provided bins
  • Be mindful of water and energy use
  • Stay on pathways to protect wildlife areas
  • Embrace the unplugged, simple living experience

Together, we can protect this beautiful place for future guests and future generations.

  • Create meaningful, lasting memories

And while you’re reconnecting, you’re also helping us care for the land we all share.
